Northeastern University

Liberty Battalion Army ROTC

Dear Students:

N
ortheastern University is a place of distinction where a diverse student body pursues excellence through academics and experiential learning. Nowhere is this spirit of striving for excellence more evident than in our Army Reserve Office Training Corps (ROTC). I endorse this program

Army ROTC has been a vital part of the Northeastern experience since 1951. Today, Northeastern is one of only four universities in Greater Boston that hosts its own Army ROTC program. Through this program, we train and commission talented students to serve as military officers on either active duty or in reserve forces. Last year, our Army ROTC program commissioned eighteen exceptional young men and women as officers in the United States Army.

In the complex atmosphere of globalization that today's world presents, Army ROTC's mantra of "Leadership Excellence" is particularly relevant. I urge you to explore this distinctive Northeastern opportunity and see if it may be right for you.

Sincerely,

Things To Know

Here's a list of some things you should
be aware of if considering ROTC:

· The leadership and management skills learned while in ROTC will enable cadets to succeed in whatever career they pursue. Northeastern University ROTC currently has cadets who major in everything from Fine Arts and Political Science to Physical Therapy and Mechanical Engineering.

· In addition to the national scholarship program, on-campus scholarships are also available to qualified university applicants.

· ROTC cadets are not "in the Army." Non-scholarship MSI and MSII cadets (typically freshman and sophomores, respectively) may withdraw without incurring any military service-obligation.

· ROTC does not interfere with cadets' regular college program, but in fact it complements campus life. Many cadets in the Liberty Battalion choose to participate in other on-campus programs, such as varsity and club sports, student government, and other student organizations of the many available at NU.

· ROTC is not a major, but a series of elective courses.
