For students looking for a chance to serve their country, pay for college, and find a rewarding job after graduation, ROTC is the smartest college course you can take. ROTC offers you leadership training you cannot find anywhere else. While you're in school, you have the opportunity to compete for merit scholarships, and take part in activities that are both challenging and fun. After graduation, you will have an exciting part-time or full-time job and an Army leader, supervising as many as forty soldiers. Whether you plan to serve a few years, or make the military career, ROTC will set you up for success. How much of a time commitment is ROTC? · Physical Training: Three one-hour sessions each week In addition, Cadets attend a one-month summer training exercise at Fort Lewis, Washington, between Junior and Senior years. What are the requirements for joining ROTC? · US Citizenship How much is the scholarship? What does it cover? · Boston College: Full tuition and fees, full board for top 5 senior Cadets. · All others: Full tuition and fees.
How long with I have to serve after graduation? · Active Duty, scholarship: 4 years If I join ROTC, am I joining the Army? No, Military Science is an academic department on campus, and ROTC training is like another elective. ROTC Cadets who are not contracted have no obligation to be in the military, and can leave the program at any time. Additionally, Cadets do not attend Basic Training, and cannot be deployed. (Note: SMP Cadets can be mobilized for state-level emergencies only) Do I have to wear uniforms to class? Cadets wear ACUs (Army Combat Uniform) to classes one day each week. It's a way for ROTC Cadets to show their pride in being part of the Army, practice wearing the uniform, and increase campus awareness of the program. Yes. Each year, the Liberty Battalion sends 5-7 Cadets to Army airborne school, and another 1-2 to Air Assault School or Northern Warfare School. These schools are voluntary, and very competitive. Can I stay in my reserve unit? Yes. Cadets in the Simultaneous Membership Program can take part in ROTC and receive E-5 drill pay with their unit. Contact out office for details. I'm a sophomore. Can I still join? Yes. Sophomores, and Middlers at Northeastern, can still join ROTC, compete for scholarships, and graduate on schedule. These Cadets may need to attend the Leader's Training Course to catch-up on the first two years of training and information. I'm a varsity athlete. Can I join? Yes. In fact, you may be able to get a waiver from taking part in ROTC physical training while your respective sport is "in season". Can I still go on Co-op? Can I do Study Abroad? Yes to both. Most Northeastern Cadets take part in at least one co-op, just like any other student. While on co-op, you do not have to attend ROTC classes or go to PT, although you may if you want. Study Abroad is also still possible for Cadets. However, discuss specific details with an ROTC cadre member; periods abroad may make more sense Sophomore or Senior year, due to Junior training. Contact the Recruiting Operations Officer at After an initial interview, you will be assigned to a squad for physical training, and put in a Military Science class. If you decide not to stay with the program, you can walk away at any point. If you decide stay in ROTC, talk with the ROO or your chain of command about receiving a scholarship and contracting.
